Faith Formation

"Faith formation intentionally shapes us inside the story of God."
Syd Hielema

“I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go;
    I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” Psalm 32:8

Faith formation is a lifelong process of growing in knowledge, wisdom, and faith.

While everything we do in the life of the congregation is a part of our faith formation, in Christian Education we focus on God’s word (scripture) and our words about God (theology). Guided by the Holy Spirit, we seek to enrich our own faith and our zeal for serving others in Sunday School and Bible studies.

Christian Education Opportunities

Bible Studies and Other Opportunities

Presbyterian Women’s Bible Study: Presbyterian Woman gathers for Bible lessons and fellowship the first Thursday of each month, September through May at 10:00 in the church parlor. PW supports a variety of missions, including The Manger and Blue Star Mothers. The Bible lesson is followed by a brief business meeting, and the meeting adjourns around 11.

Inductive Bible Study: On the second and third Wednesdays of each month, Marsha Evans leads this class from 1:30-3:00 in the downstairs classroom. Participants explore the Bible together and seek to apply personally what has been learned as a group. Everyone is welcome!

Warm The Pews: Knitters, and not-so-knitters, meet the first and third Saturdays of the month to study the Bible, pray, and then knit, or just visit. We mainly knit afghans for anyone who gets chilly easily during church.

Sunday School Classes

Lectio Continua Class: This adult class meets in the downstairs classroom. Elder Rick Mosier leads the class in reading and studying straight through the books of the Bible, with special attention being given to historical context, interpretation, and life application.

Sojourners Class: This discussion-based class meets in the church parlor. Elder Kimi Pranger covers a range of biblical and theological topics that explore faith and seek to understand God's will and God's ways.

Young Disciples Class: For ages 3-5, Sunday School meets upstairs with teachers Miss Kim and Miss Lauren. Children learn Bible stories, songs, and crafts that emphasize Jesus' love and life in Christian community.

Faith Explorers Class: For elementary school children, Sunday School meets upstairs with Miss Teresa and Miss Wendee. Lessons follow the the Revised Common Lectionary and often echo the themes of the day’s sermon. This class also incorporates outreach to homebound church members.

All Sunday School classes begin at 9:00am on Sunday mornings.

Donuts and coffee are provided every Sunday in the kitchen and children’s classrooms.
